From soft to hard – discover the routes and trails around Leoben
Five attractive routes in the city area, the new Massenburg Trail and numerous supra-regional bike trails around Leoben are waiting to be discovered by you. Mountain biking, e-biking and gravel biking in Leoben – in the mountains around the Montanstadt, everyone will find the right challenge.
To make it easier for you to find your way around, we have summarized our personal bike highlights for you.
Half or full day tours around Leoben
- LE01 -Mugel (34.1 km | 1102 m elevation gain)
No mercy for the calf! Some of the toughest climbs in the region await the Mugel (especially from Niklasdorf). Those who reach the summit here at the end have really earned their refreshments at the Mugel shelter.
- LE02 – Laintal (32.4 km | 813 m elevation gain)
Magnificent views and idyllic tranquillity await you here. In Seegraben and Donawitz, you can experience the past and present of iron production up close. - Hiaslegg & Grüner See (69.6 km | 739 m elevation gain)
This tour is also perfect for gravel bikes! Be sure to plan a detour to the Green Lake. The natural jewel in Tragöss is definitely worth the few extra kilometers!
All three routes can be ridden as a round trip in both directions. They can be reached from the hotel in just a few minutes. We’ll continue with the shorter variants for a quick tour in between ⏬
Shorter laps for after work or a quick power session in between
- LE02 and LE03-Himbergereck (approx. 11 km | 800 HM)
The Himbergereck is one of the most beautiful vantage points around Leoben. The two possible ascents end a few meters below the summit. Can be individually extended with the connections to the Laintal circuit.
- LE04– Tollinggraben (5 km | 400 HM)
The ascent via Seegraben is the ideal “feeder” to the LN7 – Tollinggraben route. The combination not only opens up more bike kilometers but also a stop at the
tavern run by the Apfelmaier family (note opening times). - LE05 – Veitsbergrunde (6,2km | 260HM)
The tour up the Veitsberg is the ideal after-work activity – short and crisp, it takes you just a few minutes from the hotel at just over 800 meters above sea level.
Just a few minutes to the start of your biking fun
You can reach the starting points of these three mountain bike trails from the hotel in under 10 minutes. The easiest way is to ride from the main square down to the Asia Spa, past the ice rink and over the Mur at the power station. At the end of the bridge, turn right and then immediately left up the ramp to the road. Follow the road until the traffic light, there you turn left over the bridge. Now another sharp right turn and on your left you will find the miner’s monument. Here you will also find an overview board with all the routes.

New trail fun at the Massenburg
- MT01 – Massenburg Trail
The new trail from Gasthaus Pampichler Warte to Massenburg adds a legal trail variant to the existing Leoben mountain bike network. Located in the immediate vicinity of the city, you can collect depth meters here at any time to suit your mood. The upper part is still rather flat, ideal for getting your body and bike up to “operating temperature”. The trail then soon leads towards the town and ends after 100 meters of ascent directly at the beautiful Massenburg Castle.
