“Hey you”: Leoben celebrates carnival

With the traditional carnival parade, Leoben becomes the foolish capital of Upper Styria every year on Shrove Tuesday. Thousands of visitors flock to the city center. An exuberant afternoon for young and old is guaranteed.

The colorful supporting program entertains along the entire length of the parade route and ensures a good atmosphere.

Leoben Mining Festival
May 29-31, 2026

The first Leoben Mining Festival brings together several important anniversaries and major events in the mining town. They all have one thing in common – they are deeply rooted in Leoben’s history and identity.

RED BULL Erzbergrodeo
June 04-07, 2026

Once a year, the Styrian Erzberg becomes the pulsating center of the Enduro world elite.

Experience the incomparable spectacle when 1,300 participants give their all and thousands of fans follow the breathtaking action live.

If you arrive with your own motorcycle, it will spend the night safely in our courtyard or in the video-monitored underground parking garage on the main square in Leoben. Along the historic Iron Road and through the hairpin bends of the Präbichl, you can be in the heart of the action in 30 minutes!

The Leobener Oberlandler have been active since 1895 and take care of their two most important concerns – charity and Styrian consumption!

The Area 53 Festival in Leoben is often referred to as “the coziest metal festival”. In its eighth edition in 2025 – in addition to the usual first-class line-up – exciting improvements for the audience are once again on the program.

The Gösser Kirtag in Leoben is one of the most popular fairs in Austria. It is also one of the oldest markets and the one with the longest street of stalls. From the traffic circle in the Göss district to the main square, around 400 market traders offer their products.

Thanks to a decree by Emperor Ferdinand, the Kirtag originated as a cattle and grocer’s market in 1836. The day of the event was also fixed back then. It is always the first Thursday after the first Sunday in October.

The traditional beer tapping, culinary delicacies, music and dancing ensure a great atmosphere for tens of thousands of visitors every year.

And because the Kirtag usually lasts longer (and allegedly alcoholic drinks are also consumed from time to time)……..

Iron Road for Children - IRFC
June 20-22, 2025

The Iron Road for Children Festival, or IRFC for short, is THE high-flyer in the Austrian event landscape. The country’s largest open-brand festival weekend for bikes, Vespas and US cars attracts around 40,000 visitors to the city every year.

Thanks to numerous sponsors, admission is free for the entire weekend. Instead, donations are collected for sick children. The funds are used to finance special purchases, therapy costs or conversion measures for the donated children.

An unforgettable experience for all riders are the joint rides with Vespas, motorcycles and US cars. Thousands of spectators line the streets around Leoben. In the evening, the party continues into the night on the main square with the respective show acts.
